My husband and I just booked a short holiday to Cabos San Lucas (we leave March 9th!) It made me realize it has been a LONG time since we last went on a trip…almost 2 years!
That got me reminiscing about our 3 week adventure through France & Italy. I couldn’t resist pulling up some old photos (most of which I’m yet to print – bad Erin!), so I thought I would share!
Here’s my favourite place….Vernazza (on the northern coast of Italy)
When we got home and started looking through our photos….I couldn’t help but laugh when I realized we had a whole albums-worth of self-portraits!
Photography Tip #1: Take an extra 4 minutes to set your camera up on a little tripod, or on a stool, bench, or rock…or, you know, ASK someone to take the shot! That way, you actually capture the scene. Not that these aren’t amusing (to us anyway!)…but….

…you have to admit, the shot below tells a bit more of the story!

Photography Tip #2: Learn to use your point & shoot camera settings! The shot above and below were taken using our little Olympus stylus 790 SW, set on “night scene” – just make sure you don’t move much during the exposure!)
You can see in this shot the people walking on the road below us are blurry, but we just oh-so-casually froze like statues for 20 seconds (sure…you feel like a bit of a dork at the time…but then you get a shot like this to remember your vacation!)
(this is taken in Monaco…by the famous casino that we couldn’t get in!)

I stumbled across some video footage too – thought I would share this in case you find yourself in Monaco, with kids, wondering what else there is to do besides getting denied entrance at the fancy casinos!
Well…thanks for joining me on my trip down memory lane.
My photo assignment for this vacation coming up – take no more than 5 self-portraits! haha
