Maternity Sessions
Maternity sessions are best shot around 32 – 35 weeks (you want the belly to be nice and full, but you still want to feel mobile)
(partners and children are encouraged to participate)
- A few hours before the shoot, remove anything that is constrictive and might leave marks (ie: bras, maternity jeans with a tight elastic, socks etc.)
- It’s best not to moisturize prior to the session, as many lotions can create a ’shiny belly’
- I recommend wearing your make-up in a natural style.
- If you would like to wear your hair both up & down, I recommend arriving with it down, and they styling it in an up-do while you are at the studio
- You’ll want to wear clothing that highlights your form
- Stretchy tank tops (in solid colours)
- Stetchy/form fitting dresses (in solids or patterns)
- Button-up sweaters or your partner’s button-up shirt that allows you to cover the bust, while highlighting the belly
- Jeans – if you have a pair you like but they don’t button up – no worries – they look nice like that!
- Black stretch pants (yoga pants) or a stretchy black skirt
- For your partner, I recommend jeans and a solid coloured top – best to avoid belt buckles, which can be quite shiny (Black & white tops with jeans is a classic look)
- Sessions can include as much or as little skin as you prefer. I will have some fabrics that can be used.
- Bring along any baby booties, or stuffed animals, we can incorporate those in some shots as well.
- And, if you wear wedding rings, and yours still fits, it’s nice to get those in the shots as well.
- Eat a light snack before the session
Newborn Sessions
Newborn sessions generally last 3 hours.
- Be prepared for more feeding, changing and wiping up spills than actually “shooting time”- your little one will spend most of the session naked, so accidents are guaranteed to happen!
- If the session is in your home, it’s best to get your room temperature quite warm, it makes it more comfortable for your little one when naked.
- An hour prior to our session, it’s best to remove socks, and try to keep ‘diapers loose’ – best you can! (to avoid diaper marks)
- If there are litte hats, special blankets, booties, stuffed animals, etc, bring them along so we can incorporate them into the shoot
- If you wear wedding rings, please bring them
- I recommend fairly plain clothes for the rest of the family. It may seem cliche, but I really am a fan of the white or black shirts, it removes all distractions so you can focus just on the relationships between family members, and converts well to black and white images.
- Bring a few changes of clothes for the adults – I can almost guarantee you will be ’spilled’ on – probably more than once!
